You ask - I answer

I'm still nervous to meet in person right now due to covid, rsv, the flu, sprained big toe, constipation.... Do you offer any other  options for sessions?

I'm nervous to meet in person too.  I shifted my practice to 100% telehealth in March, 2020. I use a HIPAA-compliant video conferencing program, and offer phone sessions as well. You're responsible for the Metamucil.

Do you accept insurance?

Absolutely. I am in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Choice, United Healthcare / United Behavioral Health, and Cigna.

How do I know whether I have a deductible and co-pay ?

On the back of your insurance card is a 1-800 number for you to call to find these answers. I am also happy to send you a list of questions  to use as a reference for when you make that call.  Even if I am not in your network, many insurance panels offer excellent out-of-network benefits, so it could behoove you to call regardless.

I'd rather not use my insurance. Will you accept my grandpa's vinyl albums as payment?

Depends on the album. My self-pay rate for a 55 minute session is $190.  I also have a few sliding scale spots, based on your need and my availability.

I'm a big fan of Chicago sports teams. Will this be a problem?

Although my heart will forever lie with the St. Louis Cardinals a/k/a the best team in baseball, I've lived in this city long enough to (begrudgingly) support all Chicago teams.

How long do the sessions last and how often will we meet?

Typically between 45-55 minutes.  I prefer to begin with weekly sessions.  I know that some individuals may only be able to meet twice a month; while for others, it could be helpful to meet twice a week. You and I will discuss your treatment plan during the first or second session, and this plan can be reviewed and modified many times during the course of our work together.

I've seen all these crazy acronyms that therapists use to describe their technique...CBT, DBT, HBO, PMS.... what will you use to therapize me?

Over the years I've come to understand that good therapy has less to do with the technique, and lots to do with the quality of the client / therapist relationship. Even if I had been trained by the great Sigmund Freud himself, therapy will still be an epic fail if you and I are not a good fit.

Okay, I'm sold! How soon can we meet?

I'm glad you asked! I offer daytime and evening hours M-F, plus the occasional weekend afternoon. After your first session, I will send you a link to my calendar which you can then use to schedule appointments online.
